Government - Our FMD Slaughter record 2007 On the 3rd August 2007 a suspected case
of FMD was found on a farm in Surrey. The figures published in bold are taken from
the OIE
data base and their received updates from DEFRA. Nevertheless,
when we hear a slaughter is taking place we do list it, and at present
have to wait for the details of the location and the numbers and
species killed. (infected or clear of infection) to be reported. Names of farms are not always clear from the OIE reports nor are the figures for infected/uninfected in each species published. Therefore from news reports we fear more farms/animals have been slaughtered on suspicion than are listed below. From the figures we do have to date (25/09/07) it seems 1,744 animals have been slaughtered among them only 175 were infected with FMD. Now, on 5th November, we have answers to
Parliamentary Questions here
revealing that 2,160 have been slaughtered and only as far as we can
tell 175 were infected. |
