Royal Society's Inquiry Report - 2002 The Royal Society conducted an inquiry into the FMD outbreak in the UK in 2001. An 'Open Public Inquiry' was called for, but the Government refused it, settling for the Royal Society's Inquiry, from which they promised 'Lessons would be learned. Sadly that does not seem to be the case in many respects. An Open Public Inquiry would still be much preferred by many. Members of the Royal Society's Inquiry Committee visited different parts of the country to try to obtain evidence for their inquiry from the local population.
